Itinerary
DAY 1: PANGKALANBUN ARRIVAL – KUMAI RIVER – RIMBA LODGE

Welcome to Pangkalanbun, the entry point to central Kalimantan. (Note: flights available from Jakarta). Upon arrival at Pangkalanbun you will be greeted and transferred to the Kumai port to board a boat for a 2 hour scenic journey along the Sekonyer River. You’ll reach the Rimba Lodge, an eco lodge perched on the edge of Tanjung Puting National Park which is only accessible by boat. This area is notable for its ecologically and biologically diverse areas in the world with mangrove swamps, rain forest and dense jungles filled with primates, leopards, lizards and more than 600 bird species. After checking in and freshening up, take an afternoon wildlife excursion with a local guide. During the tour you may spot wild animals such as crocodiles, orangutans, proboscis monkeys and birds. Return to the lodge for dinner. Overnight at Rimba Lodge.
DAY 2: RIMBA LODGE – PONDOK TANGGUI – CAMP LEAK – RIMBA LODGE

Today you will enjoy a full day trip around the jungles and rivers surrounding the Rimba Lodge to see and learn about the local wildlife. Starting at 07.00, after breakfast, take a 1.5-hour boat ride in a klotok- traditional fishing boat- to Pondok Tanggui, a rehabilitation center for orangutans. Upon reaching the center, take a 30-minute walk into the woods to the feeding station where you will be able to observe feeding time of the orangutangs at 09.00. After encountering these amazing animals, return to your boat for a 2-hour cruise up a small side creek Camp Leaky. Along the way your guide will point out the various animals and birds that live in the jungles around the river. Then, once you have reached Camp Leaky, you will have another opportunity to watch for wild and semi-wild orangutans. Camp Leakey is an organization working to re-introduce older orangutans into the rain forest. The area is also full of diverse tropical flora and animals such as gibbons, macaques and birds. Lunch will be served on the boat. Return to the lodge late this afternoon for a chance to relax before dinner time. Overnight at Rimba Lodge.
DAY 3: RIMBA LODGE – PESALAT – NATAI LENGKUAS – RIMBA LODGE

After breakfast depart by klotok boat for Pesalat. Several institutions and associations are working on conservation efforts in Pesalat including a strong focus on reforestation in order to preserve the natural habitat of organutans. Discover the Orangutan rehabilitation center and their daily activities as you explore the center with your guide. Continue your cruise upstream to Natai Lengkuas (35 minutes), a swampy area with lush vegetation. The lowland forest around Natai Lengkuas is inhabited by proboscis monkeys, long tail macaque and species of birds which you will have the chance to see as you take a short, guided walk through the lowlands. At the end of the day, return to the lodge by boat. Dinner is served at the lodge. Overnight at Rimba Lodge.
DAY 4: RIMBA LODGE – PANGKALANBUN DEPARTURE

After breakfast, your guide and private car will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the airport for your onward flight.
