Itinerary DAY 1: HANOI ARRIVAL[ D ]Upon arrival at Noi Bai airport, you will be greeted by our guide and transferred to the city center of Hanoi for check-in. If timing allows, take a walking tour through the famous ‘Old Quarter’ of Hanoi and visit Dong Xuan Market to get a taste of the busy life in the capital. This evening enjoy a delicious welcome dinner as well as a trip briefing from the guides. Overnight in Hanoi.
DAY 2: HANOI – MAI CHAU – POOM COONG[ B , L , D ]This morning depart early and head for the Mau Chai area southwest of Hanoi. As soon as you leave the city behind, the scenery soon starts to take on an altogether different look with endless stretches of farm land and hills and mountains looming in the distance. Arrive in Mai Chau and fuel up with a lunch at a local restaurant before beginning your first trek. Depart on foot for Pom Coong, a village inhabited by the White Thai minority people. You will be welcomed by the friendly hospitality and get a taste for their traditional culture as you enjoy a bbq and local dance performance this evening. Spend the night in a local home of the White Thai people. Overnight at homestay, Pom Cong. [Trekking Distance: approx 6 km].
DAY 3: MAI CHAU – XA LINH – HANG KIA – CUN PHEO[ B , L , D ]
DAY 4: CUN PHEO – VAN MAI – HANG TRIBE VILLAGE[ B , L , D ]Today is one of the longest trekking days, but with fabulous rewards. The trek route passes through many indigenous villages belonging to different tribes and offers a wonderful opportunity to experience rural Vietnam village life. Stop in Van Me for lunch and then transfer by road to Sai village to embark on a 7.5km trek to Hang Village, an oasis in the middle of Pu Luong Nature reserve. Here you cross into a new and exciting district, once used as part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, where very few westerners have traveled into. Arrive late this afternoon to Hang Village for an overnight stay in the local stilted houses. Overnight homestay, Hang Village. [Trekking Distance: 25km; Trekking time: 8-10 hours].
DAY 5: TREKKING IN THE HILLS OF PU LUONG[ B , L , D ]This wonderful day of hiking takes you through the valley with some steep climbs on a more remote route. Although remote, there are always glimpses of a villager tending fields or walking back from early morning market. At lunch time, escape from the midday heat with lunch and a chance to relax before continuing on to Kho Muong village. Nestled between steep karst limestone mountains, reaching Kho Muong is really one of the most amazing settings of this trip. For those with enough energy there is an optional trek to an incredible cave that has only recently been discovered, before finally reaching the home stay. Overnight in homestay, Kho Muong. [Trekking distance: 18km,Trekking Time: 6-8 hours].
DAY 6: PU LUONG MARKET TREK – NUA[ B , L , D ]A challenging but glorious downhill hike at 0700 leads to the Nature Reserve’s only market. (Thursdays only) Experience life in the remote villages first hand at this bustling weekly market where all produce is brought to the village two hours uphill on foot! Spend time wandering through the market absorbing the sites, sounds and smells of the colorful event. This afternoon, trek the final 7km to Nua village. Upon arrival, explore the fascinating architecture of bamboo waterwheels and the beauty of the surrounding area or simply rest in a hammock at the comfortable ecotourism lodge in Nua village. Overnight in Nua Village. [Trekking distance: 18km,Trekking Time: 6-8 hours].
DAY 7: NUA – HIN – HANOI[ B , L , D ]Set off on foot and leave the countryside behind as you trek onwards to Tom Village. From here, local transport will take you back to the ferry station where you will cross the Ma River. After lunch, meet up with the waiting vehicles for the drive back to Hanoi. Upon arrival in the capital, take time to freshen up before enjoying dinner in one of the city’s delicious restaurants. Overnight in Hanoi. [Trekking distance: 11km,Trekking Time: 4-5 hours].
DAY 8: HANOI – HALONG BAY[ B , L , D ]
DAY 9: HALONG BAY – HANOI[ B , L ]On your return to Halong City enjoy a wholesome brunch as your boat weaves through strange-shaped limestone rock formations. Upon disembarkation your driver will meet you for the transfer back to Hanoi. Overnight in Hanoi.
DAY 10: HANOI DEPARTURE[ B ]At your leisure until transfer to airport for your onward flight.
