Sample Itinerary

DAY 1: KUALA LUMPUR ARRIVAL

Arrival in Kuala Lumpur by international flight. You will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Rest of the day free at leisure for visiting the city or relaxing. Overnight in Kuala Lumpur.

DAY 2: KUALA LUMPUR - KUCHING

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight to Kuching (not included in the price). On arrival our representative will meet you at the airport and you will be transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day free at leaisure. Overnight in Kuching.

DAY 3: LEMANAK RIVER

A 225km car or coach journey takes you through lush green countryside dotted with paddy fields, pepper gardens and rubber plantations, and flanked by rugged jungle-clad mountains. Along the way, stop off at Serian's farmers market, visit a pepper garden and view carnivorous pitcher plants. Stop for lunch at a roadside bazaar deep in Iban country. Arrive at Lemanak jetty mid-afternoon for a longboat ride up the Lemanak River, passing through typical Borneo countryside with a longhouse tucked behind almost every bend in the river. Arrive at Serubah Longhouse and visit the “entire village under one roof”. Dinner, featuring delicious fresh jungle produce, is served in the simple guesthouse. After dinner, return to the longhouse for an evening’s entertainment, including traditional dancing, music, games and a glass or two of tuak (rice wine) with the longhouse chief. The Iban are a fun-loving people, and visitors are expected to join in! Overnight in the guesthouse with basic amenities (no air-conditioning and no private room for individuals) as the accommodation is built by the longhouse people to help supplement their income for their livelihood and children education.

DAY 4: LEMANAK RIVER - KUCHING - MIRI

After breakfast, enjoy a blowpipe demonstration and try shooting one yourself. Then take a short walk through the forest accompanied by traditionally-clad Iban trackers, and learn about the traditional uses of rainforest plants in Iban culture. Depart for Kuching via the same route. Lunch is served en-route. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your onward flight to Miri (non included in the price). Overnight in Miri.

DAY 5: MIRI - MULU

Breakfast at your hotel and transfer to Miri airport for your flight to Mulu (not included in the price). You will be welcomed on arrival at Mulu airport and transferred to the resort. In the afternoon, you will register at Mulu National Park headquarters. Take the 3km plankwalk to explore Lang’s and Deer Caves. You will watch the bats flight if weather permits. Return to the Park headquarters and transfer to resort. Overnight in Mulu.

DAY 6 & 7: MULU NATIONAL PARK

Breakfast at the resort. You will take a boat in the morning travelling upstream on the Melinau River to explore Wind Cave. After lunch at Clearwater Hut, you will travel by boat to Long Litut. You will trek through lowland forest for 8.8km to Camp 5. Dinner and overnight at Camp 5.

Breakfast at resort. You will ascend Mt. Api to an elevation of 1200m to view the Pinnacles. Packed lunch at the viewpoint before we descend to camp 5 for dinner and overnight at Camp 5.

DAY 8: MULU - KOTA KINABALU

Breakfast at camp. You will trek back to Long Litut and take the boat to Clearwater Cave. Explore the cave and lunch at Clearwater Hut before our boat transfer to the airport. Onward flight to Kota Kinabalu (not included in the price). Overnight in Kota Kinabalu.

DAY 9: KOTA KINABALU - SANDAKAN

Breakfast at the hotel. Day free at leisure to explore the capital of Sabah before your transfer to the airport for your onward flight to Sandakan (not included in the price). Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Sandakan.

DAY 10: SANDAKAN - LANKAYAN ISLAND

Breakfast at the hotel. At 10am you will catch the boat to Lankayan Island. Rest of the day free at leisure at the resort. Overnight at the resort on Lankayan Island.

DAY 11 & 12: LANKAYAN ISLAND

A jewel-like tiny island in the Sulu Sea. One hour and a half boat ride's north of Sandakan, Lankayan is soon to be declared part of an immense Marine Protected Area. Unpopulated and covered by think tropical island vegetation on its topside, this peaceful, untouched tittle bit of paradise is ringed by an endless pure white sandy beach, offering simply elegant and exquisite accommodation in a handful of wooden, roomy and perfectly appointed seafront double-occupancy chalets. Meals are informally served at the central open building, which boasts at amazingly beautiful open-air wooden terrace, the ideal spot for after dinner relaxation and chatting, all the while admiring the dozens of juvenile blacktip sharks swimming leisurely a few feet beneath.

While the ideal destination for those who search tranquility and relaxation in a virgin natural setting and for families with children, Lankayan Island is also one of the hottest diving destination on the map today: its dive sites, all just a few minutes away, boast unbelievably colorful macro fauna, fascinating wrecks and, in season from March to May, regular sightings of gigantic and harmless whale sharks, the "dream date " of every diver in the world. Overnight at the resort on Lankayan Island.

DAY 13: LANKAYAN ISLAND - KUALA LUMPUR

Breakfast at hotel. Depending at what time is your flight to Kuala Lumpur, you may spend the rest of the morning relaxing on the beach. Transfer by boat to the Sandakan pier and onward by car to Sandakan airport for your flight to Kuala Lumpur (not included in the price). On arrival our representative will meet you at the airport and you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Kuala Lumpur.

DAY 14: KUALA LUMPUR DEPARTURE
